SPI is the ratio of the project's Earned Value (EV) and Planned Value (PV). If the ratio is more than one, it essentially means that the project has earned more value than the baseline, and hence, it is running ahead of schedule. A value less than one means that the project is behind schedule. SPI is a powerful metric for quickly gauging the project's schedule performance.
